Concerts and Coozies: Rules for an Outdoor Venue

On Sunday I went to an outdoor music festival in Speegleville (near Waco) with a girlfriend of mine from College Station. Six hours of Coors Light, live Texas Country and people watching in 76 degree weather and a lawn chair = heaven. The resulting sunburn? Not so heavenly but totally worth it!

The Wade Bowen Classic featured artists like Walt Wilkins, Roger Creager, Stoney Larue, Brandon Rhyder and Randy Rogers - to name a few! The concert and golf tournament raised something like $120,000 for Postpartum Support International.

As we're entering the summer season of outdoor concerts and music festivals, I thought I'd relay a few key rules to follow:

1. Don't forget the sunscreen. Especially early in the summer season you may not have a good base tan yet, so up the SPF! With that said, you really should slather on the spray tan to get a glowy orange color. If you couldn't be mistaken for Snooki, you're doing something wrong.

2. Keep the jewelry to a minimum. Otherwise you might end up like my friend, Blair, here. -->

3. Coozies are key. You should bring at least two for each of your beers so that you can double fist them. This means less trips to the bar and more time enjoying music.

4. Bump Its are in! The bigger the bump, the better. You'll need to pop in that plastic into your hair to get maximum volume. Backcombing just won't cut it. Don't forget the value-sized bottle of peroxide to achieve that platinum blonde look.

5. Oversized lawnchairs! If the venue is an amphitheater or rodeo arena (like at the Classic this weekend), you'll need to bring your own chair. Preferably an oversized one with two cupholders for your two beers. An attached footrest is a plus.

6. Appropriate attire consists of tube tops and cutoff boyshort-length jean shorts or tube top dresses. Bras are optional, but if you do wear one, make sure it's a size too small so you get a good fat roll over the top of the dress or tube top. Floral rompers can be substituted for these in a pinch. And don't forget your Bump It!

7. Forget fit! If you can squeeze your body into it, it fits!

8. Guys should wear an Affliction shirt and a $20 cowboy hat or a pearlsnap shirt and a Hurley hat. If you are over 40 years old, you should wear jorts (jean shorts). Pleats and flapped back pockets are a plus.

Have a GREAT summer music season!
