A New Day

I leave around 7:00 each morning for a highway commute dotted with truck stops and fast food chains. It's rarely light outside when I leave, and the sun starts to peek over the horizon to expose fenced pastures simmering in misty fog. If you look closely you can see the silhouettes of the bovine residents, basking in the calm - what will likely be the coolest part of their day.

My favorite crew are a bubbly, bouncy herd of goats whose stubby tails bobble back and forth as they parade through their field in search of breakfast.

The foggy fields are immediately calming and soothing. They are a breath of fresh air. Err mist. This is the morning, and it feels new and clean.

An ensemble inspired by my morning drive.

  • The lines of this green and white summer dress ($58) reflect the winding highway through the pastures.
  • The amethyst and pearl earrings ($20) are the color of the mist, and the winding silver lines show how the mist hugs the trees on the landscape.
  • The long chain of the purple agate necklace ($25) is the length of my commute. An hour each way. The angel wing reminds me to ask God to protect me on the long drive. To keep me awake and alert. The polished purple stone is the washed and waxed, shiny cars that pass me on the road.
  • The bunched leather tote ($163) reminds me of the quiet observers as I drive by. The clasp even resembles a bolo tie that the ranch hands might wear when rounding them up.
  • The bracelets (green $42 and blue $35) bring nature to me. They are the bright green grass and the streams, ponds and tanks I pass.
  • The blue pumps ($204) mirror the morning sky peeking between the soft clouds.
